Music and Family
For this blog I decided to Interview my Dad on Music in his life. My Dad listens to so much music. I feel like he knows every song on the radio. When he's in the car we're always listening to 70s on 7, 80s on 8, or Yacht Rock Radio, and he knows about every song. My Mom will sometimes say "how do you know this?" You'll sometimes hear him singing something me or my siblings like and we also wonder how he knows those songs. My dad can say he's been to a lot of iconic live shows, but he's also been forced to see The Cheetah Girls, One Direction, and some others with my sister and I. Here is our conversation about music in his life:
Who was your favorite artist when you were a kid?
“When I was a kid I would say probably The Drifters”
How did your music you loved as a kid influence the music you love now?
"I still listen to the same stuff. I love beach music. On my phone I have a whole section of beach music."
What kind of music did you dislike as a kid?
“I liked it all. I liked Beach Music, Country Music, Instrumental, i liked it all”
Do you have a first memory of music?
"Yeah. Riding around listening to Beach Music in the car with my parents."
What kind of music did your parents listen to? Did you like it?
"Beach Music. Yes, I liked it, that was The Drifters."
What kind of music did you listen to as a teenager?
"Country and Rock and Roll"
Did your friends listen to the same type of music you did?
"Yes"
Did you go to any live concerts? What were they like?
"Yes, I went to some concerts. They were loud. That's about it, so loud you wouldn't understand."
What kind of technology did you use to listen to music? How has that changed over your lifetime?
"I listened to records, cassettes, and cds. Now I listen to satellite radio and use my phone."
What was the first music you bought? Where did you buy it?
"I think it was Elton John. It was a 45 and I bought it at Roses. Yellow Brick Road. That was a little record."
If you could see any artist (dead or alive) live, who would it be?
"It would be the Beatles or Led Zeppelin"
It's cool that your dad listens to so many different kinds of music and knows so much. It's pretty rare for someone to say they like all kinds of music, so it's pretty cool that he does. Also, him liking beach music a lot is hype, that's the good stuff.
ReplyDeletei found it pretty interesting on your dad's taste in music. i really liked most of the genres he picked. as a teenager i feel like every body has that rock roll hype music in them and your dad had the main songs. good blog.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your interview with your dad, as I also interviewed my dad for this blog. He seems to have a really broad range of music he listens to/enjoys. Its pretty cool to see how much the music from one's childhood/adolescence sticks with them through adulthood, I always wonder if it'll be the same for us as well.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I did not interview my dad, many of our classmates did and i find it interesting that some (not all) are similar. In the generation we are being brought up in, a lot of people's music taste is very dissimilar. I wonder why that is.
