My Musical Culture
Hello everyone! I'm Ansley. I am a freshman here at Converse. I'm from Gaffney, South Carolina. I don't have much of a musical background apart from a few piano lessons and school productions when I was younger. I love listening to new songs and artists and finding new stuff I like.
1. Something I'm listening to now:
"Big Shot" The Lumineers
Last month The Lumineers released a new album, Brightside. "Big Shot" is probably my favorite from the new album. The past few weeks I have had the new album and other songs from The Lumineers on shuffle. The new album is good but isn't my favorite from The Lumineers. The Lumineers have some very popular songs, and some that are very good but don't get as much attention as others. If you've never listened to The Lumineers, I recommend the album, Cleopatra.
"Gold Rush" Taylor Swift
A playlist I have been playing a lot recently is a combination of both Folklore and Evermore by Taylor Swift. She released both albums in 2020. They are very different from what she normally writes. One of my favorites songs from Evermore is “Gold Rush.” I love the way it sounds. There are so many good songs from Folklore and Evermore I’ve been listening to like, “No body, No crime” with HAIM, and “Peace.” I have loved Taylor Swift for a very long time and am very excited for her re-recordings and new work.
2. Something special to me:
"Fine Line" Harry Styles
This song would probably be at the top of the list of my all-time favorite songs. I love it so much. The lyrics and music are so beautiful. I am a big fan of Harry Styles, but I think I would love this song if I didn't know who he was. This song reminds me of people and times in my life. My favorite part is in the end where all the different instruments come together.
3. Something I don't really love:
"Heat Lightning" Mitski
Some of my friends like the artist Mitski and have tried to get me to listen to her songs, but I haven’t found one I would add to my playlist. I think her songs sound a bit creepy. I have not listened to them all, so I’m sure there are some I would probably like. She also just released an album I should listen to.
Based on the other blogs I’ve looked at so far, your music taste is definitely the most similar to mine. I like The Lumineers and Harry Styles and I’ve really really gotten into Taylor Swift’s music ever since she released Folklore and Evermore. Fine Line specifically is such a good song and one that I definitely have on my playlist of favorites. I haven’t listened to the most recent album by The Lumineers but I like the song you chose so thanks for introducing me to that! Also, interestingly enough, I think Mitski’s style is a lot like the other music I listen to but I’ve never been able to get into her stuff either. I haven’t tried listening to all of her songs but I have heard a few here and there and I just haven’t connected with any of them.
ReplyDeleteI love The Lumineers! and agree 100% this isn't their best album but from the "BRIGHTSIDE" album my favorite would have to be "A.M. RADIO" the beats and how it goes from fast to slow is my favorite in that song. Taylor swift on the other hand is not my go to... there are some songs of hers that are catchy but most of her songs I just don't really relate to or can vibe with. The song you linked though I have never heard from her, but it was really good! Harry styles I also love! I went to his concert in 2018 in Washington, DC and it was one of the best concerts ever! Kacey Musgraves was his opening person, and she is also someone I would recommend listening to if you haven't. The instruments coming together in "Fine Line" is for sure my favorite part as well but overall, the whole song is so relaxing and comforting. Now for Mitski's I have never heard of, but I really liked the song you linked of hers... her voice sort of reminds me of a fast upbeat version of Lana Del Ray.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your music choices! The Lumineers and Taylor Swift are so good. Evermore and Folklore are AMAZING albums. No Body, No Crime is such a good song. Fine Line is such a great song too! We definitely have similar playlist!
ReplyDeleteYou have amazing music taste! I especially love Mitski and the Lumineers. My favorite from Mitski maybe "Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart". If you like Mitski you should consider listening to Phoebe Bridges if you haven't already!
ReplyDeleteHello Ansley. I really appreciate you sharing your music tastes through this blog and sharing some information about you. I am not familiar with the Lumineers or Mitski, but through your blog i got the chance to listen to their music and became aware of their styles. I may not know a few of your singers, but we are similar in taste with Taylor Swift because who doesnt love Tay Tay and her endless songs about heartbreak?
